Two exciting young contemporary dance companies share the evenings featuring two world premieres commissioned and presented by Skirball Center as a celebration of community through dance.
Choreographer Larry Keigwin's program will feature Bolero NYC, a large-scale (50 performers!) choreographic event that satirizes and illuminates the basic challenges of life in New York City – claiming space and getting attention. Participants will include professional dancers, NYU student dancers, and untrained children, adults, and seniors. Keigwin's program will also include: Natural Selection – a work for six dancers seemingly straining for survival, and a new piece for NYU student dancers, Caffeinated.
Choreographer Chris Elam's Misnomer Dance Theater (Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch in 2007) will present an intimate world premiere he's been developing while in residency at Skirball Center. The piece - "future perfect" – embodies the progression of physical language, examining behaviors of belonging and fulfillment.
Stick around for the after-party with food, drinks, and live DJ. Everyone's invited!
