Unlike anything the quartet has done before, Jamie Masefield and the Jazz Mandolin Project have produced a multi-media experience combining original video footage, live musical performance, and a 120 year-old Russian story. Tolstoy’s tale of a man spurred on by the Devil to acquire more and more land is given a modern twist through this unique interpretation.

  Jamie Masefield has established himself as one of the premier mandolin players of the new generation, both through his Jazz Mandolin Project and collaborations with members of jamband heroes Phish. Jazz Mandolin Project has released records on Blue Note, and has been a staple of the summer festivals scene for years. “Mandolinist Jamie Masefield churns out incessant chords like a guitarist… The unquestioned skilled musicianship… is easy to peg.” Rolling Stone. The Jazz Mandolin Project has toured the US, Europe and Japan for the last 13 years. Known for improvising in a way that borrows as much from rock, tango, drum and bass and classical as much as jazz, they made their major label release on Blue Note Records in 2000.
