Join us for a spectacular blend of dance and music that will fill your soul with Christmas spirit. In this timeless holiday tradition, enjoy a sugarplum delight, enchanting music, and lavish costumes. The Nutcracker brings to life Clara’s holiday dream filled with children, her mischievous brother Fritz, and the object of her adolescent fancy, Hans Peter, Drosselmeyer's handsome assistant.
The Joffrey Ballet School returns to the Skirball Center with an elegant new production of The Nutcracker to Tchaikovsky’s beloved score. Generations of audiences have enjoyed this charming tale of holiday adventure that follows a little girl’s journey through a fantasy world of dolls, toy soldiers, an army of mice, snowflakes, princes and fairies in the land of sweets.
Associate Artistic Director Davis Robertson, who has created works for the Joffrey Ballet, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and the Milwaukee Ballet, will choreograph the ballet after Petipa and Ivanov. The production features the students of the Joffrey Ballet School performing all of the traditional roles including the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier.
The two-act ballet had its premiere at the Maryinsky Theatre in Street Petersburg, Russia, on December 17, 1892. It was based on an adaptation of a story by E.T.A. Hoffmann called The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The Joffrey Ballet School’s production of The Nutcracker is a traditional holiday classic you won’t want to miss.
